Today we’re taking a quick look at Leica’s newest addition to the deluxe line of cameras, the Leica D-lux 8. The Delux 8 holds onto the compact nature of the Leica Deluxe and Q cameras. While also being a mighty powerhouse of a camera. If you’ve ever wanted to get a feel for the Leica philosophy, the Delux line is a great way to understand it. the overall simplicity of the system and a smaller form factor.

LEICA D-LUX 8 specification:

The Delux 7 Lecia Deluxe 8 features a 17-megapixel 43 SEMA sensor and is powered by a fixed Leica DC Vario Smilax 10.9 to 34 mm f/1.7 to 2.8 asph zoom lens.

Roughly 35 mm is equivalent to 24 to 70 mm. I was pleased to see Leica adopt the same versatile lens as the previous model. Between the focal range and the fast aperture, it sets you up to shoot almost anything with it.

This lens also features optical image stabilization to help minimize camera shake when shooting handheld images. The Delux 8 is the first of eight generations of the LEICA D-LUX 8 line that supports both L JPEG and DNG format capabilities.

Giving you further control over your images and posts or you could try one of Leica’s four film styles in jpeg modes. it has an ISO sensitivity of up to 25,000 and can shoot up to 11 frames per second of continuous shooting.

Leica D-lux 8 frame size:

On the video side, the LEICA D-LUX 8 supports 4K at up to 30 frames per second and Full HD mode at up to 60 frames per second. In the box, you also get a petite on-camera flash, further enhancing this camera’s ability to operate in any lighting condition.  The LEICA D-LUX 8 upholds the signature of a design that pairs simplicity with an intuitive user interface.

Similar to the Q Series, this camera body hosts only the essential buttons and dials, like menu playback and zooming, and four customizable options.

There’s also the same aspect ratio dial on the top of the lens from the Delux 7 As I mentioned, this camera is incredibly compact. coming in at 397 G, making it a wonderful option as a carry-around camera without sacrificing image quality.

The LEICA D-LUX 8 has included a 2.36-millimeter OLED EVF and an improved monitor resolution now at 1.84 million dots. making it easy to judge your exposure and focus.

Lastly, Leica has upgraded from a micro USB to a USBC making it easier to connect with modern devices however if you prefer to edit your photos on the go you could take it one step further with the Leica photos app.

We took this camera out for some New York street photography and loved how lightweight and portable. it was the lens that was the perfect range for some wider cityscape portraits as well as capturing just everyday life of the city.

It was incredibly adaptable for any kind of lighting situation with a fast aperture and the addition of the optional on-camera flash.

Imaging: A Large Sensor and a Bright Lens

The LEICA D-LUX 8 is the latest camera from Leica (and fifth overall if you consider the Panasonic LX100 and LX100 II) that uses the 10.9-34mm f/1.7-2.8 zoom lens. it is a known quantity. It is similar to a 24-75mm normal zoom at full frame. While the 75mm angle is most appropriate for head-and-shoulder portraits or subjects at a modest distance from the camera.

the wide 24mm angle works well with the main lens on most smartphones and can be useful for instances like landscapes and photographs of groups.

The LEICA D-LUX 8 can record in full-width 1080p 60fps in addition to reduced 4K 30 fps and 4K 24fps formats. 8-bit colour, 4:2:0 sampling, H.264 compression, and encoding at up to 28 Mbps for 1080p and 100 Mbps for 4K are all supported. You may use any color profile that was utilized for the JPGs here.

Although it may not be enough for directors with grand visions or color-correcting vloggers, this beginning video arsenal is enough for recording vacation footage or obtaining a snippet for social media sharing.

Of course, expensive cell phones are even better for rapidly taking 4K images—you may utilize an ultra-wide lens, avoid cropping, benefit from sensor stability, and feasible to turn on HDR color.

Conclusion:

The LEICA D-LUX 8 is a welcome addition to the Delux line of cameras retaining some of our favourite features from the previous models. crisp image quality flexibility and the iconic Leica design all while fine-tuning what is already made.

The LEICA D-LUX 8 line is so accessible this camera is ideal for the shooter looking for a travel-friendly setup without forging image quality. I was very happy to see an integrated DG formatting for further versatility with this model as well as greatly improving the monitor resolution but what do you think of the new Leica Delux 8 what’s your favorite new feature let us know in the comments below.
